Music Box Theater Chicago a single-screen theater, debuted on August 22, 1929, at North Southport Avenue. Furthermore, Mother’s Boy was the first movie to premiere on the opening night. 

The Music Box Chicago occasionally showed Spanish-language, pornographic, and Arabic-language movies between 1977 and 1983. The Music Box Theatre Corporation was founded in 1983 by Robert Chaney Christopher Carlo, and Stan Hightower. The schedule expanded to include foreign, independent, and cult films, and repertory screenings were shifted to weekend midday and midnight.
