Chef BK Park & Mako Chicago

Chef BK Park is a renowned name in the culinary world. The chef has over 20 years of experience working with seafood. Park worked in a sushi restaurant during his graduation to earn money and pursue a hotel management course. Due to this hard work, he was even offered a job at that restaurant to help the chef in the kitchen.

He decided to start working with the chef and sharpen his culinary skills. Over time, he learned the technique and culture of sushi. He then started working at Tsunami on the Gold Coast, and within 2 years, he was declared the head chef. It was then in the year 1999 when Park joined the team at Mirai Sushi and dedicated 7 years as head chef. After this, he moved to co-open Arami in West Town.

Then approximately after 3 years in 2013, he started his restaurant, Juno, which was famous for its authentic omakase menu. This eatery received the title of “one of Chicago’s very best Japanese restaurants” by a critic, Phill Vettel. Apart from this, it also secured 3 stars from the Chicago Tribune.

It was Chef Park who developed the omakase concept. Soon after this concept got stardom, he opened Mako Chicago in 2019. The name of this eatery comes after the name of a shark species known for focus, instinct, precision, and speed. This present restaurant is Park’s highly-anticipated project. He has used all his experience and skills to establish a popular place. Here’s another thing to note, just after 6 months of its opening, Mako Chicago was awarded 1 Michelin star along with 4-star reviews by the Chicago Tribune.
