Michael Henry Moorman began peddling Italian ice on Boston’s streets in 1971 at the age of barely 17. After a winter of apple tree pruning, he opened Mike’s Lemonade in the spring of 1975 when he was 21 years old in Amherst, Massachusetts. Michael and his pals relocated to a rural area in southern Tennessee in 1976, where he met and wed Eileen.

At age 24, he started producing a lot of tofu and soymilk in the rural Tennessee area to feed the locals and others. He began distributing Ice Bean soymilk ice cream across the country in 1981. He entered the restaurant consulting business after earning his degree from Cornell University’s hotel school in 1989. He eventually made his home in Chicago, where he was named managing partner of Heartwise Express in 1996.

Finally, in 2003, Michael Henry and Jorge Aviles combined their talents and humor to open M Henry.
