Lillstreet Art Center Chicago was established by Bruce Robbins in 1975 as a clay manufacturing company. The name Lillstreet Studio was adopted because of its location at 1021 W. Lill in Lincoln Park. Later in 2003, the studio relocated to Ravenswood Avenue and was named Lillstreet Art Center. Now the Art Center spans over 40,000 square feet area. It has 20 classrooms with a capacity of 100 students each. 

Furthermore, it is an art school and art gallery that also accommodates artists working in various fields and serves as a studio for them. In addition, the center provides classes and workshops related to topics such as Ceramics, Textiles, Drawing & Painting, Printmaking & Book Arts, and Jewelry & Metalsmithing.

The Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago offers classes for adults in 5 departments. Moreover, the duration of these classes is from 5 weeks to 10 weeks and meets once a week, but once you are enrolled, you have access to a free open studio.

  • Ceramics – Ceramic classes are nationally recognized and provide access to the best equipment and facilities. Not just that, they teach more than 100 combinations of glazing and various firing options.
  • Drawing & Painting – You can learn various traditional and contemporary painting and drawing techniques, such as observation & representation or abstract Painting. 
  • Jewelry & Metalsmithing – You can also learn various jewelry designing and making techniques such as stone setting, casting, soldering, enameling, wirework, chain making, etc.
  • Printmaking & Book Arts – All printmaking and book art techniques are included, such as etching, letterpress, relief, monotype, collagraph, and screen printing. Book art includes pamphlets, stab-binding, accordion, and coptic.
  • Textiles – The art center offers classes in embroidery, knitting, quilting, crochet, sewing, screen printing on fabric, fabric dying, block printing, marbling, frame loom weaving, and more.
